Kailey Stevens
My work explores the tension between meticulous detail and raw expression, merging classic technique with a more contemporary conceptual edge. I work with a diverse material language for most of my pieces, navigating the transition from traditional oil paints to the tactility of textiles. When not working in mixed media, my artwork extends into the two-dimensional realm through my India Ink work, graphite, and oil-based pencils.
I use my work to blur the lines between life and decay, digging at a deeper theme of how the mind and the body degrade, and how they can destroy each other. I also have a deep love for the imagery that comes with moss, mold, and anything decompositional, so that inspiration is carried throughout my pieces.
